The preparations for "North of Disko 11" are well under way. Máire and I have been extremely busy trying to secure food sponsorships for this 3 month journey. We have to say that most local and national businesses we approached for a food sponsorship have been exceptionally supportive. This is very welcoming considering we hear about how people have become single minded in modern society. Our hearts have been uplifted by people’s generosity, response and their interest in this interesting expedition.
The local business people from Bearna to Carna, Galway, Moycullen, Oughterard have contributed through food sponsorships, cash donations and first aid supplies. Furthermore, to date, the larger companies such as Batchelors, Arrabawn Dairies, Derrycamma Farm and Clada/Galway Water have come on board. The crew are so relieved and thankful to everyone who is playing a part in this trip through whatever means available to them.
The expedition will have a crew of 10 people. In the last two weeks 2 new members have come on board, the famous duo - Barney and Beaney. Batchelors will be celebrating 80 years in business in September. They are looking forward to exploring the icecaps and what lies beneath the water in western Greenland. We look forward to hearing their stories as they sail and dive in the Arctic. Need lots of beans to keep warm and healthy.
